Tony and thread,

FTC signals no imminent move against Intel

WASHINGTON, May 29 (Reuters) - The Federal Trade Commission
has no meeting set next week at which it could bring charges
against Intel Corp.INTC.O, although that could change,
according to a recorded FTC telephone message late Friday.

Sources familiar with the case have said the FTC staff is
close to recommending that the commissioners bring charges that
Intel abused its market power to hurt its rivals. Intel, the
world's biggest semiconductor company, supplies the chips that
run 80 percent of all personal computers.

Once the recommendation is made, a meeting of the FTC could
be called on short notice.

The updated "Sunshine Phone" recording said there were no
meetings of the five-member commission planned for next week,
but that the schedule was always "subject to change." The phone
line announces all planned meetings of the FTC, but not agendas
for closed sessions.

The five-member commission can only sue Intel if it meets
and a majority votes to act, which would take place in a closed
meeting.
