Intel's postponement of Merced indicates clearly that the market is not ready for high end systems, though they may not want to publicize. Instead, INTC has indicated their interest in low end systems, celereon.

DELL's made to order high end systems enjoyed a good profit margins so far. Competing in the low end or ignoring them completely will cost DELL in their earnings and the high flying stock price will be in jeopardy.

Profits accrued on DELL stock is so lucrative that the funds might cash them out at some point. It will not fall sharply but may not rise sharply either. DELL reminds me of Micron, which produced DRAM efficiently and better than others, for a while. That's good enough reason for the momentum guys to bail out.

DELL will be a trading stock rather than an investment. It will be in the trading range in 1998-99 similar to INTC in 97-98. But who knows?

There is no such thing as absolutely and positively in the market.
