Newsys New Systems Solutions Ltd., Ottawa

Poised for growth

Newsys returns to the PROFIT 100 for a second time, with five-year revenue growth of 2,900%. The Ottawa-based computer-consulting firm provides custom software and electronic commerce and Internet consulting to government and corporate clients such as Mitel and Bell Canada.

Mark Quigg, Newsys's CEO and co-founder, says the company's edge lies in the quality of its consultants. "We are a service business," he says. "Our product is people." Quigg says Newsys focusses on relationship selling that offers solutions to customer problems. The company has grown from five to 125 employees in five years, and Newsys plans to add an addition 35 employees in 1998.

Last April, Newsys went public on the Alberta Stock Exchange. The resulting capital will be used to acquire other consulting companies, pushing Newsys onto the national scene. Within two years, Quigg expects the company to list on both the Toronto Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.
