Looks like Intel is not only having design problems but is also pushing back the timetable for introduction of its Merced generation process technology (.15u?). Too bad!

Intel wasn't stupid when it did the DEC deal. Alpha was and will be Intel's hedge against a Merced flop. The way things look like right now, when Merced debuts Alpha will be ahead in performance. Maybe over time Merced will slowly close the gap--that is if Intel doesn't cancel it first and go with the cheaper (thanks to AMD legitimizing Slot A) Alpha architecture.
