Eagerly lurking 4 Roger's Ans 2 Ur resin Q. Understood DuPont bore R&D cost for 3D's original resin, and for a small amount of time, 3D had a lock on it...
That was until the Japanese got ahold of some and "made their own" as best they could.
While Roger's answering resin Questions...I hope he reviews some of the resin history between 3D, and why DuPont isn't doing it anymore, and CIBA has the contract, etc!
I believe it will lead us to some understanding about why this company has taken SOOOOOOO very long to get it together!
FWIW, 3D has been one of my primary examples over the years of NOT buying #1 in a new widget technology arena, because all of their money is tied up in R&D, firming up patent positions, and extensive legal expenditures defending their true #1-ness.
Another question I have for Roger is the medical applications of this modeling technology, whether it is 3D's or Stratsys' or whoever's!!! I've always been fascinated by prosthetics engineers who are using 3D systems modeling capabilities to CUSTOM MAKE hip joints, etc., for the physically challenged.
Last anyone talked to me about this side of 3D's prototyping biz, ALL those prosthetic engineers were employed by non-public companies. I've always a neat niche' growth stk opportunity would be if anyone ever took a company public with custom made prostheses using 3D's stereolithography instead of the "stainless steel in small medium & large" mentality currently in use by the medical profession.
Any comments before Roger gets to both of our notes?
Nice to talk to you again, JCS
