India and Pakistan have had three wars since their independence (1947), the last one being in '71. India and China have had one war in the early sixties.

Yes, things are tense there. BTW, I find the US response comical - I just heard on CBS that "the President has sent strong letters to both the countries to stop ..." If the intent is to make them stop, US needs to take steps behind the scenes. Public statements put pressure on the local governments to ignore them - in fact, do the opposite - otherwise they'd appear to be bowing to the US pressure (note Pakistan's nuclear testing despite public US efforts). BWDIK.
