I just found out something.. People using those PC-Quotes based trading accounts can and were shorting stocks even if no shares were available. The brokerages later went and fixed it when someone wanted their shares back but since most of these fast traders are just day shorts and they cover at the end of the day it does not matter but its still against the law. The culprits are most of the ECN's. There is an update that you can download which will fix the problem but that will prevent you from shorting stocks that can not be borrowed.. So how many people do you think will do the update? Intresting..
