Networm, my understanding of The Axe is that it's usually the one or two marketmakers that brought the issue public initially. As such, they know who and where the largest shareholders are. Further, when there are large buy and/or sell orders, it is frequently The Axe that will be found working them. I've had days of watching MASH or MLCO just sit on the offer and never move all day long, selling 1000 share lots hour after hour after hour. Hard to get an uptick when a big seller is dumping his position. Of course in large cap stocks, lots of MM's often have lots of inventory, so the significance isn't so meaningful.

Does this jibe with other people's understanding?
