Kemble, from what I'm reading, it may be a wash. Rudedog hit
on some very key points on the Intel thread. His take is
that it will give the industry more time to develop support for
this platform.

Some will indeed benefit. Many analysts are already predicting
an increase in system sales today as a result of buyers not
wanting to wait that long for Merced. You will now get 2 years
of life out of todays highend system before Merced is ready to
ship. At the old 1.5 year time horizon, the value equation
was'nt as attractive.

I don't think it will have any impact on Dell. They too will
have more working time with Merced's alpha silicon. And to be sure, there will be plenty of processor advancements to leverage between now and then. Short term however, crazy as it sounds, it could
actually give upper-end system sales a boost.

We shall see. My brain is worn out from too much reading that's
why my posting ability stinks at the moment... sorry.

P.S. Here is a great debate between Gwenapp and Dvorak on the
sub $1000 PC. Looks like they took some of their key points
from this thread<ggg> Great reading!
