Sonny, more about Merced delay. The first reports that came out were that it was due to manufacturing issues (design is OK). But, when Craig Barrett finally was heard, he said it could best be described as a program management problem. I felt much better because Merced is a huge, huge project ,very difficult to manage. In Hollywood they'd say years in the making and a cast of thousands. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of sub-projects in a project like this, and tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of tasks below that. Interdependencies abound, making the project plan look like a three dimensional, rotating, pulsating spider web from Hell.
Anyway, I was much happier to hear that it was a project planning problem, and not anything in the architecture, design, technology or manufacturing. A reschedule, and then crank to it, is better. I would not want to be the one to have to slip it again, though.
New subject...not bragging but I exposed V.G. on the other thread. She said Andy Grove was not at the stockholders meeting this year. I shot back that I sat in the second row at the meeting, about 20 feet away from him. She of the "I bought 10000000000 shares of MSFT at $.001 in 19XX."
I rooted for da Bulls because I think Jordan is the best ever and Larry Bird is second (which is why I don't mind Indiana winning). I'm waiting for the Celtics to rise from the ashes, which I think they will under coach Rick Pitino,
Keep posting, Sonny, you're not impeding anyone.
Best Regards,
Tony
