Philip, Mitel's work in recent years has been largely focused on the use of 155 ATM in their premises based voice server architecture, with ISDN gateway techniques to get to the outside world, where convergence capabilities were mentioned. They also make use of IEEE 802.x LAN protocols in the delivery of their premises solutions, but nothing in IP yet, from what I recall, anyway.
They did a celebrated white paper (they thought so, at least) about two years ago with Passmore's Decysis (or is it Decisys?) consultancy that I read in BCR, if I recall correctly, extolling the virtues of ATM-based voice in the LAN to an NT server, but it didn't mention VoIP at that time, nor do I remember seeing IP mentioned elsewhere where Mitel was concerned. No VON, in other words, unless they're doing something very recently that I am not aware of. If I hear anything worth reporting, I'll post it here.
And that little anecdote about the nurses, well... that was sorta special.
