Roland,

Qualcomm did some joint tests with Superconductor Core Technologies, [SCT] reported on Qualcomm's home WWW page last September. Have a look! They both seemed quite enthusiastic. How do you know which companies have good superconductor technology? It certainly seems a red hot field of technological development with applications possible in heaps of places where electrons are being pushed around. Levitated high speed trains made by Hitachi and sold by the 1000km in China and India seems a prospect to me about 2010. Plus radio frequency efficiency. Maybe it would enhance photovoltaic systems in the Aussie desert. Electric cars [road or battery powered]. I'm a civil engineer [once upon a time] who worked in the oil industry for 20 years, but latterly learning a bit about telecommunications and investment opportunities. So I have to plead ignorance about superconductors. You are working in a red hot field in my opinion [to coin a couple of original puns I hope]. I suppose that cryogenic systems will reduce electric fields and EMR, which is being accused of cellular damage [biological, not telephone] with consequent excess cancer risk. Is that of concern to scientists working in that area? Do you know Karl Michel? [spelling?] He lived next door to us in Antwerp. He was a solid state physicist [professor at a university in Antwerp] when I last saw him in 1989. He would be about 55 now I guess. He was interested in optical fibre [a friend of his had an optical fibre factory in Liege/Luik or whatever they call it]. It might seem silly to you, but it is a "small world" game that NZers tend to play. Not quite your field so I guess unlikely. Maurice
