There is a report that MIT researchers
and Pacific Lithium Ltd of New Zealand
have developed a cheaper alternate to
cobalt in lithium ion batteries. They
have substituted aluminum for cobalt:
LiAlO2 for LiCoO2. This is quite a
setback for Popular Science's FEB98
touting of lithium ion cobalt batteries.
