I don't believe that anything is truely "open." Not ActiveX. Not Java.

Both technologies will [soon] work on multiple platforms (Windows, Mac, Unix, etc.). However, it is obvious that both technologies will be optimized for a single platform. With ActiveX, since it is going to be optimal for Windows, it is seen as "evil," because it is associated with the "Evil Empire"--Microsoft.

For Java, it is currently optimised for 32-bit Windows (95 and NT). Soon, it will be optimised for the "JavaOS," which will run using Java Chips. For some reason, no one thinks much of this, and this is what is killing me. I argue that there is no difference between the two platforms--neither are, or will be, "open."
