In re: Y2K<> Bob Brinker is recommending the following book
written by a hallowed computer expert and his daughter, which
book is entitled Time Bomb 2000 by Edward and Jennifer
Yourdon. To recall it, this tome of 415 pages is published by
Prentice-Hall. "Preserve or obtain hard copies of all financial
records and statements up to 31 December 1999," is the
sobering advice offered by our Star Ship Commander . Brinker
also mentioned that the effect Y2K will or won't have on the
markets is "too early to tell."

Brinker also introduced three additional and potential computer
problems thus far receiving little attention in the press or else-
where.

1) 22 August 1999 ...Global Positioning Satellites are "rolled
over." This could affect both banking and guided missile com-
puter systems, to name only two, per Brinker.

2) 9 September 1999 ...Since "999" ordinarily indicates "end of
file" in computer language, the similarity of the date (9/9/99) and
the end of file command could wreak some havoc in computer
systems.

3) 29 February 2000... This is a leap year, according to the re-
forms instituted by Pope Gregory anno Domini 1582.* Brinker
cited possible problems for "legacy applications."

*Century years evenly divisible by 400 are leap years; the rest
are not. Hence, A.D. 2000 will be a leap year. By this reckoning,
though A.D. 1896 qualified as a leap year (evenly divisible by 4),
A.D. 1900 did not mathematically qualify as such (evenly divisible
by 4, but not by 400).

Flash! Brinker predicts that Intel Corp. will open on Monday
at a price lower than Friday's after-market close of $71 7/16.
