Europe and US I am European, living in Asia, but it does not make a difference. From a cultural viewpoint, Europe is different from US. And within Europe, there are huge differences. You do not find anywhere the consumer behavior you get in the US, but you get a piece of it everywhere. The problem? It is not the same piece. Some like to give funny and above all simple explanation to complex issues. If it helps them... but the 'computer boom' experiences now in Europe has complex consequences for tech stocks. Why? the market is not homogenous. The size is huge, but between tiny and computer litterate Finland, and larger but less computerized France or Italy the market winners will not be the same? Too bad for Mr Hollywood who likes simple ideas. At the hardware level, there will be significant winners i guess. I believe that 3Com should experience strong growth in the 'Club Med'. It is more a replacement market in the north, and 'new market in the south. So, to anticipate results in the north, it might be useful to look at how 3Com is doing with the more mature market segment. To anticipate results in the south... well you get the picture. And high infrastructure investment is done in Internet field. But as mentioned earlier on this thread, CSCO seems to have a strong hold there and 3 Com, not much of it. I personally think that 3Com results from Europe will be a god surprise (good brand recognition, established network sales,..). But like everyone, I am waiting for facts. |
