I gave that link a cursory glance and Fox wasnt mentioned, is he in there? I am sure that they dont mention Eckhart, as from what little I know, he definitely believes in God.
As far as my abandonement, why would God(any god, Christian, jewish, buddhist, hindu, or otherwise) want to abandon someone who is earnestly searching for him. Searching through the expression of love, instead of through more traditional and organized forms of religion. Can God find that to be insulting? Or a slap to his face? I cant see how that could be.
