Fred, RE consumer preference for Intel Inside

I'm reiterating a point I made earlier, but the consumer doesn't seem to have much of an alternative to Intel:

As far as I can tell, of the major boxmakers (IBM, HP, Compac, Dell, Gate, on & on) none are using AMD or Cyrix chips. The only computer available with these chips (to my knowledge) are no name manufaturers. You have a double negative marketing situation, not only is the chip percieved to be less than Intel, the boxmaker has no brand identity. A typical consumer spending $2k to $3k is going to not going to buy a generic product.

It competitors could get into the major OEM's they might have a better chance for end user sales.
