Eddie,
Like the man said a one time profit. If you are running a company you have to think long term for your investors. With a one year free try out for Compaq PC buyers, I don't think it would take that long to build an Internet service provider. The search engine business depends on advertising. ISPs charge monthly fees to users. I haven't looked it up, but I think the AOLs of this world make money.

Think of all the different ways this would benefit Compaq in the long term.
