Chris, PFE at 114 is NOT a place to initiate a LT position esp when sector/market entering a corrective phrase. PFE should not be at this level this fast if not for the hype of Viagra, so the stock is ahead of itself. No new drug release has ever had this much hype & controversy, you would naturally expect the stock will pull back after the initial hype and the momentum players start to look for other plays. dont blame your parents' buy & hold decision, they just need to understand buy and hold doesn't mean you buy at any price - buy and hold works when you buy at reasonable price but not buy at any price - by that i mean buy at level where a 20-30% upside is a reasonable target within 3-6 months - that means you would only do buy and hold when good companies hit short term trough - then you get enough upside which allow you to cushion some temporary setback (or using Judy's hedging strategy), so you can hold on for bigger gain down the road - minimize tax burden too.
