Carl and Ze'ev, it is not likely that the overcapacity in 200mm bare wafers will be absorbed completely before the transition to 300mm is well underway. Unlike 150mm wafer demand, which seems to have peaked only recently, well after the introduction and common usage of 200mm, the demand for 200mm will fall victim to the need for greater density. The equipment makers are in a bit of a bind here, they don't all have resources to extend the feature size to 0.15u AND develop similar capability in 300mm simultaneously.

The overall margin picture will remain bleak for some time. Contract pricing will prevent any significant margin improvements from being realized except possibly in the epi market. Sumi and SEH are well positioned to ramp up epi production in response to demand shift and this will keep prices flat, at best.

These conditions will obtain at least through 2nd Q 99. I expect Mr. Toad's Wild Ride between now and then across the group. I'm content to do a little day trading for now!
