Agreed, difficult to value companies, I find the easiest and quickest way to get a relative value is by production (although lately N.Gas/HeavyOil/Light Oil even makes that difficult), the advantage with production is its real(more difficult to mess with the nbrs) and also a benchmark to see how the company is progressing year to year/ Q to Q. I usually value production first, then track record,then management,then stock options/assets/debt/ etc etc.

PS: When I look through O&G co annual reports I try to look at 2 or more at a time, then keep one(A good company) as a reference.
