Donald:

We are still a few years ahead of the marketplace. BST most likely won't come into its own until the era of the 256 Mb DRAM. I do not know exactly if these companies have purchased our BST chemistry. To be successful using BST, you need both the chemistry and the proper technology to deliver it reproducibly. Everyone is working hard on BST, but it remains R&D.

My understanding is that ATMI's BST technology (part of our 1 Gb DRAM program with IBM, TI, and Micron) is several years ahead of competitors. Current materials reach their physical limit in the vicinity of 256Mb...not enough surface area to hold the capacitance to create the 0/1 of memory. BST offers up to 100x the capacitance. Stories I've heard bandied about mention that you have two choices when it comes to manufacturing 1 Gb DRAM: you can use BST...or you can not make 1 Gb DRAM.

Regards,

Dean
