Talking to my friends at Adaptec, they feel that Mylex
has at least a one year lead. They pioneered the I960 RP and RD chips
with Intel and understand that chip very well.

I can't comment in detail on Compaq nor Dell and HP. I have sold into Compaq and
Dell in the past, and I do know that they have several divisions.
Each division has its own requirements and will use outside
products if it makes sense (It also keeps internal solutions honest). With RAID going
to workstations and price sensitive low end servers Mylex can
compete and lead the industry if they can pull it together.

As far as new products and channels there are two thrusts that I know of:

1) New products for distribution (RAID is definately going that way)
2) The AcceleRAID "RAID upgrade" for motherboards with SCSI chips (Intel and the clones now have this in production).

(1) Goes head to head with the AHA 131. The pricepoint is about
the same with the DAC960PJGM.
(2) Is a direct competitor for the Adaptec RAIDport product and
is technically lightyears ahead of their product.

Let us know what you learn,

Dougerdad
