Coop, I found this in a 1976 book on ginseng (The Complete Book of Ginseng by Heffern):

"The seeds require several months of stratification before they are even planted. If the seeds are treated with gibberellic acid to hasten germination in addition to stratification, they will still require several months after planting before they begin to germinate. After germination, the roots cannot be harvested until they are at least three years old, preferably five or six years old."

I wonder if RMGG can get more ginseng from other growers (or its competitors) if it needs more than it has. My impression is that the North American ginseng companies have had to go thru Hong Kong traders in order to distribute in China, but now that RMG has a direct China connection, maybe they would go thru RMG???
