Phil, Asia is not the problem with IMPX but it could be the final straw.

The only thing that I've seen, that points to Asian exposure, is the Linfinity report of decreased sales and Massive inventory build up last quarter. Linfinity's problems will come home to rest at IMPX.

If your bargain hunting, I think that the semi area offers better bets than IMPX, especially at current levels. Stocks like OAKT and ESST are at historical lows without IMPX's financial problems, they also have very clear understandable product roadmaps. IMPX is trying to get into the catalog Linear market, this is a great business to be in ( look at LLTC, MXIM, ADI ) but generally exhibits slow product "ramp to volume" cycles and requires that you develop your sales channels with the same vigor that you develop your chips. I don't think IMPX is offering the support that is required to maximize sales in the catalog market. Clearly they are in a bind because they need to watch expenses at the same time as they release new products. This will result in a slow acceptance of the products and a slow gross revenue ramp.

It is real hard to understand where IMPX's long term revenue will be generated, Zeev is convinced that ELD drivers will be their forte, personally I don't see any acceleration in ELD use so I'm not counting on much revenue from these sources. I liked what they were doing with Linfinity but that strategy seems to have died. It seems that their foundry business has lost all their volume customers and now has to convince new customers to use this old process technology for specialized high voltage applications. In their favor IMPX is making a name for themselves as a High voltage products company.

So where does this leave us: IMHO IMPX is ONLY a good trading play.

If your looking for long term investments than you'll get another chance to pick IMPX up at the same levels as it is today, so why buy it today?
