RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Brazilian drug stores saw brisk sales of Viagra on Monday, the first day the anti-impotency drug was legally sold in the country.

Pharmacies that had not yet received the drug reported
waiting lists with as many of 40 names. Several others
had opened telephone hot lines for home delivery of
the drug.

By early afternoon, Gilberto Silvany, a Rio pharmacist,
reported his store had already sold out 80 percent of
its stock.

''I think we'd probably sell more but a lot of people
are too embarrassed to ask for a drug that affects
them down there,'' Silvany said.

Although Monday marks the first day that Viagra was
sold legally in Brazil, it has been available for some
time on the black market for as much $22 a pill. In the
drug stores, the drug sells for about $48 for a box of
four pills.
