Jim,

One reason could be that MIS and purchasing people have seen what has happened to other software giants who have come and gone, leaving orphaned products in their wake. Why are they gone? If you have to ask, please reread my Why I Don't Like Bill Gates post. Remember how they used to say that no purchasing agent was ever fired because he bought IBM?

Cost and flexibility? Phooey. When Microsoft is the only game in computerville, I am sure businesses will see reasonable pricing and flexibility go the way of the dinosaur. Besides, those factors were never there. It's smoke and mirrors. I know this because I do lunch with Microsoft's only tech support guy whenever he is in the SF Bay Area. <vbg>
