I am assuming most of you who are on this thread also read the Yahoo thread and so I haven't been posting messages twice. However, through "private e-mail" many have asked me what current news I have so in case some are NOT reading Yahoo, I am posting the following two responses---one regarding "other fit" with BMC and one regarding MSC and timeline for testing SPD.
And yes I am still buying because I can't believe how CHEAP it is and with patience you can get GREAT executions by letting the shorts/day trippers come to you with stock.
From Yahoo: BMC Other Fit N_Dixon Jun 1 1998 8:07PM EDT Right after I learned of acquisition, I spoke with Pat Bryant at REFR and with respect to BMC, she said that they are in displays as well as eyewear, and she mentioned about there being a "good fit." I did not go into any detail, nor am I familiar with exactly what BMC does in that area.
You can find information regarding SPD technology and flat panel displays at the REFR web site.

You should also be aware that the recent announcement regarding "black particles" has sweeping significance, [although from looking at the market's reaction you can tell that no one has a grasp of how important this announcement is] especially in the flat panel display application. A friend of mine subscribes to a service where he gets e-mail headlines for industries he's interested in and for the FIRST TIME, under the flat panel display headlines, the REFR press release appeared about the black particles. He says in his e-mail to me: "I'm sure the flat panel display industry is aware of REFR by now."
2nd Response is to the following question: <<Is there anyone here that has talked with Material Sciences. I'm waiting to hear how testing is going. If someone has that information lemme know. I'm trying to determine the time frame for production. I figure particle testing for large runs will take 3-4 months.>>
I haven't spoken with them personally but have heard from 2 different sources that have spoken with Mr. Fairley at MSC that they were just waiting on some "scaled-up" materials from REFR and the impression my friend has was that "it would not take very long to coat the SPD films once they had these materials."
Testing on a Weather-O-Meter should take no more than a month. Also, REFR has developed some internal tests for UV stability which gives them preliminary litmus test type results in a few hours, so they are in a position to predict with some degree of confidence whether a particular particle will be very durable and pass the extended weathering tests.
Last I heard about company was that they met last week with one of their outside scale-up manufacturers and things are going very well and that they couldn't "share specifics at this time."
Hope this helps,
