Eric, for the record, and to clear up the confusion, to execute a stock split that would create anything more than the currently authorized number of shares, Intel would need to get approval via a vote of the stockholders.

The "authorized shares" reason is the issue. In the Intel By-Laws, increasing the authorized share count requires a stockholder vote.
