Apple shakes up its OS strategy
...He said Apple sometimes tries to change the way people do things too much, and
that's a mistake.

"But now I think they're sticking with their core tried and true [abilities]. I'm not
saying Rhapsody wasn't a good idea ... it's just that not all good ideas sell.

"The strategy that they have now is a great strategy."

Corel Corp., quite possibly Canada's most visible Macintosh developer, said the
move was "excellent" and it's optimistic it will allow Apple to gain some of its lustre
back.

"Instead of forcing developers to rewrite software for Rhapsody they basically took
the Rhapsody kernel and put it under the Mac OS as we know it," said John
Geleynse, Macintosh product manager at Ottawa-based Corel. "This way,
developers can continue to develop using the programming interfaces they're
familiar with," he said...
