Very true. Merced (if successfully produced) will be targeted for high-end and server applications. It seems that a lot of people don't understand this fact...including "some" analysts. Here is one example. This is an analyst talking about the impact of the Merced news on Yahoo and other internet stocks, which took a tumble today. Apparently he thinks that the delay of Merced may hamper sale of low-price PC...I'm sure the fact that internet stocks are so overvalued has nothing to do with it...hehe

>>William Blair analyst Abhishek Gami agreed overall market volatility
appeared to be a big factor, but suggested the news of the delay of
Intel Corp's (INTC - news) next generation chip might also be causing
some concern among Internet stock investors. ''If this (Intel's delay)
hampers the sale of low-priced PCs, then in some investors' eyes, it
reduces the ability for Internet companies to grow their businesses,''
Gami said.<<

I'm adding this analyst's name to my little black book...next to Megan Graham-Hackett of S&P. BTW, Megan reiterated her accumulate rating on INTC. Hmm...INTC, CPQ and HWP...Megan and S&P really know how to pick some winners. Talk about contrarian indicators. The minute Megan reverses her "strong sell" on AAPL, I would be a little worried. ;-)
