Geron is a long way from a drug... but they are the only pure play that I know of in telomerase. Their science is top- notch and so-far the results of their research have been exciting. I think that a small position is a good long-term bet in an otherwise diversified portfolio. This is a story stock, no question, and it remains to be seen whether or not this work will have an effect in-vivo (i.e., humans).
With regard to the conference, I have no idea what they will present. Could be a rehash or it could be new results... who knows. In the past, it was different news that sent GERN flying... once it was cancer and recently it was making a cell immortal (implications for both cancer and aging). Biotech has been kinda hot lately (ENMD, MOGN, ICOS, NEOT, etc) and so I think good news here will move the stock. We'll see... should be an interesting day or two. I think the first presentation (Gregg Morin) is set for sometime between 9 and 12 (Pacific) tomorrow. Walter Funk speaks on Wednesday.
Hopefully, the general market will hang in there... a market crash and all bets are off!!!
