<Intel stated that they intend to compete in ALL PC market segments.>

An effective competitor in a market segment has focus . . .

Saying that they intend to compete in ALL segments means that,
while they are paying lip service to market segmentation, the
reality has not sunk in yet. Even a company with Intel's
resources cannot focus on everything and prevail everywhere.
Why? Because it competitors will be focusing on
specific segments. In military terms, you concentrate superior
force to knock off your enemies one at a time. You don't disperse
your forces everywhere, allowing your enemies to achieve locally
superior force and bleed you down to defeat.
