Jim P., the argument is that DELL is invulnerable to competitors' tactics. I would agree that if the industry crashes, it will be bad for DELL (I happen to think that everything is OK). But in terms of outright competition between DELL and its competitors, I think that DELL has a distinct advantage that will permit it to win any price war. The competition cannot afford to deal a crippling blow to DELL, because such a move would be even more cannibalizing to themselves than to DELL. Even more, CPQ's current predicament has taken out the company best positioned to trump DELL in such a game. CPQ will do well to dig itself out of its self-dug hole.
