[Teligent Opens $10 Million Center for Nationwide Network Operations and Customer Service]

VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1998--Teligent Inc., a new, integrated communications company, Tuesday formally opened its $10 million, state-of-the-art customer service and network operations center in Herndon, Va., passing a critical milestone on its path to launching commercial service in at least ten markets across the country by year-end.

More than 200 Teligent employees already are working at the facility, known officially as the Teligent Operations Center and located at 460 Herndon Parkway. The center eventually will house a staff of more than 300.

Joining Teligent Chairman and CEO Alex J. Mandl at the opening ceremony was U.S. Representative Thomas M. Davis (R-Falls Church), who has worked to promote Northern Virginia as a leading technology center.

"The Northern Virginia business climate continues to provide many opportunities for companies to grow - particularly in the high-tech industry," Davis said. "Teligent is helping to fulfill the promise of the Telecommunications Act - bringing more choice, more competition and lower prices to the marketplace nationwide. Here at home, we will all benefit from this investment in our community, more jobs and new communications services."

Mandl told several hundred Teligent employees and guests who gathered at the 50,000-square-foot facility that today's opening represents a major step forward for Teligent. The company intends to offer local, long distance, high-speed data, Internet access and video conferencing services to small and medium-sized businesses in 74 major markets across the country.

Teligent will use its own, digital, fixed-wireless networks to provide customers with one-stop shopping, lower prices and greater network speed and capacity.

"The opening of the center has enormous significance as we build out markets nationwide," Mandl said. "This facility is the technical heart of our network, and provides our service representatives with the smart, high-speed tools they need to deliver first class customer care. As we continue our aggressive growth, our commitment to our customers demands a state-of-the-art network and unparalleled customer service."

As Teligent moves to build its digital local networks and grow its work force across the country, the company is helping to deliver community investment and job growth to the local communications marketplace. Teligent currently has more than 700 employees, up from 221 at the beginning of the year.

Today, about a third of Teligent employees work in the company's Vienna headquarters, a third at the Teligent Operations Center in Herndon and a third in 20 offices throughout the country.

The operations center includes:

-- The Network Operations Center - home to Teligent engineers continuously monitoring the company's networks. It features stations for engineers arranged in three stadium-style tiers facing a bank of high-resolution video monitors.

-- The Data Center - contains Teligent's information systems - billing, e-mail, customer response, order entry, service provisioning and network management - as well as Help Desk and systems development professionals.

-- The Customer Service Area - provides workstations for customer service representatives to offer professional, responsive and efficient assistance to Teligent customers.

-- The Sales Training Center - accommodates employee classes, using the latest in education technology. Teligent will use the center to continue its development of a highly trained sales and marketing force.

In January, Teligent announced the initial 10 markets in which it expects to launch service in 1998. These markets - Washington D.C., Austin, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Tampa - comprise more than 200 municipalities and have a combined population of approximately 60 million.

Based in Vienna, Teligent is a full-service, integrated communications company that will offer small- and medium-sized business customers local, long distance, high-speed data and Internet services over its own, digital wireless networks in 74 major metropolitan areas throughout the United States.
