Mr. Market is momentarily confused about the implications of the Sprint network (as well as the threat from cable). This is a problem for competing telcos, but it's a boon for telco equipment suppliers.

Sprint didn't have an installed base of copper wire, unlike the
established telcos. So, they spent years and billions building
a fibre optic network (thereby consuming much of their free cash
flow -- something I didn't like about Sprint). But, the
established telcos (here and around the world) are already
sitting on copper. The Sprint network (as well as cable) just
forces their hand to work more quickly to increase the bandwidth
of the infrastructure they already have. It's not as if they
can just sit there and let Sprint walk away with everything.
