Company Press Release

LuxSonor DVD Decoders Earn Full Dolby Certification

Five Companies Now Offering LuxSonor-Based DVD Add-In Products to PC Manufacturers

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1998--LuxSonor Semiconductors, Inc., a digital multimedia company providing ''system-on-a-chip'' solutions for the consumer and computer markets, today announced that it has received full Dolby certification for its LS220 and LS240 series of DVD decoder chips.

The LS220 and LS240 product families are integrated DVD decoder chips which incorporate MPEG-2 video decoding and Dolby AC-3 (and MPEG) audio decoding. The LS220 is designed to provide DVD hardware acceleration for the desktop PC market, while the LS240 series is designed to provide such support for the notebook market.

''We are quite pleased to offer these fully certified DVD products to our PC and notebook OEM customers,'' said Harold Liang, chairman and CEO of LuxSonor. ''The LS220 and LS240 products provide manufacturers with much better DVD performance and greater audio quality than is available with alternative software solutions,'' added Mr. Liang. ''The beauty of the LuxSonor solution is that it is also quite cost effective, even for low-end notebook offerings.''

In order to earn Dolby certification, LuxSonor and its customers worked with Dolby Laboratories to test and fine-tune the audio quality of the DVD decoder products, and then successfully passed a series of certification test suites provided by Dolby. Dolby AC-3 is a digital audio coding format that has become the leading industry standard for high quality sound.

Among the companies now offering DVD add-in cards based on LuxSonor's technology are Formosa, Procomp, Labway, and TMC. Each of these companies is now shipping a product that has been fully certified by Dolby Laboratories.

''We are extremely happy with the Dolby-certified audio performance of our LuxSonor-based DVD products,'' said James Gan, CEO of Procomp USA. ''We expect to sell a large volume of this product during the next few months.''

LuxSonor Semiconductors, Inc. is a fabless semiconductor design company that develops single-chip solutions for the consumer and computer markets. Launched in late 1997, the company's LS220 and LS240 families of products are being designed into a growing number of DVD add-in card solutions, several of which are now shipping in volume as part of name-brand PC and notebook products. Based in Fremont, California, LuxSonor has offices in Hong Kong, Taipei, and Shenzhen, China. The company employs more than 70 people worldwide and is privately held. LuxSonor can be reached in the U.S. at 510/683-4668 or at www.luxsonor.com.
