Microsoft is evil. While it may not have evil intent, it squashes creativity and is killing the business of developing application software.

Just as Atari killed the videogame industry for awhile, we are experiencing the same type of a fall. (but for completely different reasons.)

We're just on the cusp of that, though, and most people cannot see it.

Furthermore, it is quite sad when consumers end up spending way too much money on crappy products when superior ones are there. I hate seeing ignorant people taken advantage of and screwed over this way. It leads to disgruntlement and a poor opinion of the software development industry. (I've seen this from my father, and both me and my mother are professional programmers! My father is tired of buying software and finding it doesn't work.)
