David,
I just found out something that sheds light on Ascend's statement that their solution has only 1 D/A conversion while others have more. You notice that they mention ISDN PRI. Apparently, there is a difference between channelized T1 and ISDN PRI, in that channelized T1 is most often provided off a channel bank, i.e. 24 analog lines are run to the channel bank, which then provides the T1 to the ISP. In this case there are 2 A/D conversions, and 56K will not be possible. Ascend is way ahead of USR with PRI deployment. PRI is used by ISPs because of the easy differentiation between analog and digital calls, in that the network is able to signal to the ISP which type of call it is. ISPs with Ascend most often use PRI, since it has been available all along, while ISPs with USR have been forced to use channelized T1 until just recently.
So, "assend is full of bull"?
