Ok, it's lesson time for all the newbies...... keep 'em coming

To send a personal message, click on the person's name on the post. That will take you to the person's profile. In the upper right hand corner you will see 'Send a Private Message'. Click on it. It will open a response box just like responding to a thread message.

Type your message. Submit it. Proof it. Send it. Only difference between this and a post response is that once sent, you don't get a second chance to edit it.

If someone sends you a private message, your inbox counter in the upper left corner will show a number from 1 to whatever. Each message or post response you receive will increment the counter. The counter will decrement with each inbox message you read. If it is a private message you will be given the chance to Reply or click past it. It will, however, go into a folder. Folders are listed right next to the Inbox counter. You have an In folder and an out folder. All private messages sent and received go there.

Hope that helps.
