The Quantum is still in my system, as a backup drive. Using it as the removable drive would be ideal were it less bulky and a bit less hot. I could probably get by OK, but don't want to risk the problems with it.

Since we have a lively used market here at the U. of Chicago, I'll try to sell it for $150 or so. I'll likely put the proceeds towards another identical Maxtor, which (as I recently discovered) will reside happily in the removable storage tray.

I used to use the tray for moving data easily between a couple of desktops and a notebook docking station. Now that I have a fast ethernet network, this has become unnecessary. I expect to use them mainly for off-site archieve and test purposes here on out, unless I try the "cable select" method described in my earlier post. They also come in handy when I need to move a lot of data back and forth to a friend or client's system when they don't have an ethernet setup.
