* AMD this week at comdex is privately demonstrating their K-6
microprocessor for customers and analysts. The K-6 demonstration was running at an internal clock speed of 200 MHz with 512K L2 cache and MMX technology. It is very impressive that AMD has a fully funtional chip at 200 MHz with a probable PR rating at 225 range.
* On a side by side comparison, with a 200 MHz Pentium Pro, the AMD K-6 runs a suite of applications visibly faster. AMD also publicly diplay PR-166 K-5 also runs faster than 166 MHz Pentium. It appears that AMD will have a complete Pentium class line available by the beginning of 1997. This is important so AMD can provide a complete upgrade path up to K-6.
* We believe that AMD will brand the k-6 and give it an individual
indentity similar to what Intel did with its Pentium
. We believe that a strong brand name is integral to the success of k-6, and AMD has began to take the necessary steps to develop an awareness of its brand. We continue to recommend the purchase of AMD.
