Globe says Walsh in coma at Bahamian hospital, condition critical

Bre-X Minerals Ltd BXMShares issued 2191033301997-05-07 close $0.09Wednesday Jun 3 1998The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, June 3, edition that David Walsh, former head of Bre-X Minerals, is in critical condition in a Bahamian hospital after suffering a heart attack. The Globe's Paul Waldie writes that a spokesperson at the Doctors Hospital in Nassau says Mr. Walsh collapsed Sunday afternoon, was taken to the hospital and is currently comatose. His wife, Jeanette was at his bedside yesterday and their two sons, Sean and Brett, are believed to be en route to Nassau. The hospital says the Walsh family want this to be a private matter and have not issued a formal comment. A family friend says Mr. Walsh last week appeared in good health. The friend says Mr. Walsh "seemed like he was trying to put the pieces back together. This is really sad." Friends say Mr. Walsh is not in good physical condition. He is heavy-set, smokes and drinks.
