It was seriously thought that Japan planned an invasion- and they HAD discussed it in Tokyo. Coastal Japanese Americans- in cities like SF, were thought to be a risk. Looking back you can say that the risk did not merit the actions taken. I, however, will not do that. I think at the time, with the knowledge our government had, they made an appropriate decision. And if they had thought Germany and Italy planned to invade they would have interred them too- but they were tied up in Europe. And I might add the Japanese did actually attack Americans in Hawaii, possibly aided in target acquisition by Japanese living there (at least that was what the military thought). I feel the same way about the use of nuclear weapons on Japan. It might not have been the decision I would have made had I been President- but then I wasn't there and neither were you.
