Bilow, now you are running away from the desktop/PC argument and
moving into the mobile realm. These products are highly
fixed in their application. Your argument continues to unravel.

Ever heard of Palm Pilot's, PDA's etc.? This is the type of product the AMD processor is targeted for. This is for mobile applications, not an expandable, re-configurable, mainstream desktop PC type product.

There are scores of products like this to fill niche markets. That's
what they are for. Notice how far behind in terms of CPU generations
this is for the level of integration. It's SIX years old. That's why you aren't seeing this level of integration on the desktop.

Integration is not driving the PC market. It's more dis-integration
due to processor advancements, die shrinkage, the capability to cram more transistors on a chip along with new architectures and standards. This AMD product is a 292 pin BGA and integrates some
pretty antiquated technology. Intel's Camino chip alone is a 324 pin BGA and all it does is interface to the GTL (Host) bus, and provide AGP4x and RAMBUS functionality. The Interface controller hub is a 241 pin BGA. Then there is a Super I/O and ISA bridge. Dont forget about the Katmai processor too. You can't sweep all this into a single BGA. It would require about 1200 pins and consume about 80 watts of power.

Even with the AMD CPU, you still cant build your $150 desktop system. You could however build a $150 PDA.

Your argument that a mainstream PC's will be $100-$150 in 3
years is flawed. Only if innovation stops could this happen
and were a loooong way off from that.

Show me the link that uses this type of product in full featured
desktops. What company is falling all over themselves to
design and distribute such a machine? That would be a good
candidate for a short if they are public<gg>
