Third Eagle Bay Well Flow-Tests At 53.9 Million Cubic Feet of Natural Gas & 6,264 Barrels of Oil Per Day Production From First of Louisiana Areas Also Commenced
.
HOUSTON June 3, 1998--TransTexas Gas Corporation (NYSE:TTG) said that the flow-test of the State Tract 352 No. 1 well in Galveston Bay confirmed the extension of the Eagle Bay natural gas field into the second fault block and readied a third well to commence production. The State Tract 352 No. 1 was flow tested yesterday at a rate of 53.9 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMcfd) and 6,264 barrels per day of crude and condensate (Bopd), with flowing tubing pressure of 4,100 p.s.i.
.
Electric and acoustic logs previously indicated the presence of total net pay of 124 feet in a gross interval between 15,200 and 16,260 feet, in 4 separate zones. However, the well was tested from a zone of 84 feet of net pay in the same sand that produced in State Tract 331 No. 1 and 331 No. 3 wells. The flow-test of the third well expands the primary Vicksburg pay sand and increased TransTexas' current net proved reserves in Eagle Bay to 251.5 Bcfe.
.
Although the first well in the field has been producing for over two months, it is constrained by condensate separation facilities of 1,500 barrels per day capacity on the west shore of Galveston Bay at Texas City. While so constrained, gas production has been limited to approximately 8.5 million cubic feet per day, with flowing tubing pressure of 11,180 p.s.i. Full-scale production from Eagle Bay is scheduled to start in late June, once onshore production facilities are completed. Production reservoir and flow-test data indicates that the Eagle Point field will flow at high rates of gas and condensate, and is likely to become one of the Company's most significant fields.
.
Additional drilling locations in Eagle Bay are currently being permitted, including onshore surface locations, one of which the Company expects to start drilling within 30 days. The field is one of several prospects controlled by a venture of TransTexas & Davis Petroleum Corp. in the areas of Galveston Bay and South Louisiana.
.
Production from Louisiana Field Commenced
.
The partners also said that production had commenced from the first of their prospects in South Louisiana, the Maurice field in Vermilion Parish. The R. Trahan No. 1, is producing at a rate of 11.1 MMcfd and 422 Bpd, with flowing tubing pressure of 10,250 p.s.i.. A second well, the P. Broussard No. 1 was flow-tested on May 29 at 4.7 MMcfd of natural gas and 230 Bpd of oil with flowing tubing pressure of 11,150 p.s.i. from a perforated interval of 15,924 to 15,944 feet. Shut-in tubing pressure is 11,500 p.s.i. while the well is unitized. TransTexas owns a 25.2% working interest in the Maurice field wells.
.
The South Louisiana venture with Davis covers an area that eventually will include 3-D seismic over most of the 350 square-miles. TransTexas and Davis currently intend to drill a series of eight prospects in the area on trend with known proven hydrocarbon-producing fields. TransTexas will act as the operator in five of these prospects, the first of which is expected to be drilled in early July. TransTexas owns a 58.3% working interest, before payout, in these additional prospects.
.
TransTexas Gas is engaged in the exploration, production and transmission of natural gas and oil, primarily in coastal and south Texas, including the Eagle Bay field in Galveston Bay. For further information on the Company, please visit our web site at transtexasgas.com
