Earl spoke at Paine Webber conference in NYC. Very upbeat. Here are just a few points:

1) inventories finally are expected to be down to 4 weeks this Q.
2) they said the DEC merger is almost 100% approved... they will get an official word either today or tomorrow.
3) they are going to hold an analyst meeting on Thurs. afternoon laying out their strategy with DEC and also many other announcements including a consumer PC solution, their Web strategy with AltaVista and "other" web related plans.
3) they were very upbeat with DEC acquisition implications re: service & ALPHA sales especially in light of Merced delay...
