Billy Joe:

Voice over IP isn't a competitor to ATM technology, in fact atm is the transport of choice for wan transport of IP.

Voice over IP is a higher layer function while ATM is a layer 2/3 infrastructure.

Gigabit ethernet also isn't a competitor to ATM in the WAN business, only in the backbone of the local area network. BTW, PMCS is starting to offer solutions in the gig ethernet space, but that business might be lower margin since it's more competitive.

The only way the big infrastructure providers can survive and offer all of these cool new integrated services is to offer some form of a packet based network.

Video over circuit switches makes no economic sense in the mass market. the main point behind sprint's concept is the integration of all of the services, packet does that in the most economic fashion. BTW, all of the companies doing development of advanced IP packet infrastructure (such as jupiter) are all using PMCS chip sets.

Doesn't matter who wins, as long as it's packet transport, PMCS is the one to be involved with.
