And both of the fore-mentioned do absolutely no DD of their own. You ask if they have called the company, or what the company does-- and they have no idea.
Now, now, really. I believe this issue has been covered exhaustively elsewhere. Many of us don't feel that calling the IR rep of a non-reporting BB company is "doing DD". They can tell you whatever they damn please. Sure, the information they release the the people they pay to write "analysts" reports is useful to bear in mind, but it certainly shouldn't be taken as gospel.
Don't do REAL DD? Sure I do. Check out the CSHK thread. We've done quite a lot of it there. Asked, and answered, a great many questions the company declined to address.
I've given an equally hard time to companies whose stock I've owned. There are always questions that need to be asked, and it's always advisable to seek information from sources not affiliated with the company.
On a great many threads, especially BB threads, there's the idea that if you're not a shareholder you have no right to information. This is utterly absurd. And all too frequently, anyone who expresses even tentative doubts about the probable fortunes of the company is viciously attacked. This is childish. Negative viewpoints, even of one's favorite stock, should be considered attentively. I've been blinded by my own excessive enthusiasm in the past; it can happen easily. |
